A company supervisor plays a big role in the success of a company, and the best bosses know how to inspire their employees to do their best work. On the flip side, a supervisor who does not take an active role in motivating their employees, will likely lose them. To reduce the chances of this happening, here are four ways that you can positively affect your employees’ performances.
Employee Evaluations
The employees that excel in the workplace know what their bosses expect from them. These employees also know if their work lives up to the boss’s expectations because their supervisors give them regular evaluations and feedback for improvement. Often, employees have no idea that they’re not meeting expectations until they get a negative performance review. Good supervisors don’t let their employees’ work fail and then tell them about it months later. They pull the employee aside in a timely fashion and give him or her suggestions for improvement.
Mentorship
A boss who becomes a mentor for their employees directly contributes to the success and growth of those employees. Some managers feel reluctant to provide mentorship for their employees because they’re afraid that the employees will leave for greener pastures. However, wise managers know that those employees could leave anyway, and often they do leave because they feel like their company isn’t willing to invest in them.
Team Building
A good supervisor to enhances communication and team building. Those who have been put into leadership positions should know how to build teams, not divide people. However, some bosses may inadvertently do this by picking favorites or displaying aggression in their dealings with their employees. While tactics like these may create the results company leadership wants to see in the short-term, it’s ultimately demoralizing and counterproductive in the long run.
Performance Rewards
Bosses rely heavily on good employees, sometimes to the excess. No employee wants to be taken advantage of. One way to ensure that they don’t feel like this is happening is to reward them. If a manager expects more from an employee, then, in turn, that employee should be rewarded more for their work performance. After all, rewarding outstanding work leads to happy and loyal employees.
It seems like everyone has had a supervisor who wasn’t so great at least once in their work life. These bosses often resort to temper tantrums, humiliation, favoritism, and other tactics to motivate their employees. However, any progress they make with these tactics is short-lived, as most employees won’t stay in a work environment like this for very long. Effective bosses know that they’ll get the best work out of employees who they treat well, mentor, and reward for good work.
